The Hoag Family Cancer Institute

The Hoag Family Cancer Institute was built with one fundamental principle in mind: providing state-of-the-art cancer care in a comforting, patient-centered environment.

With an overall five-year relative survival rate that exceeds the national figure by a full 8 percentage points, Hoag Cancer Institute has built a solid reputation as a leading cancer care and treatment center. Perhaps that’s why more than 3,200 newly diagnosed patients seek treatment at Hoag Cancer Institute in Newport Beach each year, making it the largest volume provider in Orange County.

Hoag Cancer Institute has received the National Achievement Award from Commission on Cancer of The American College of Surgeons.

Hoag Heart & Vascular Institute

Hoag Heart & Vascular Institute is a leader in cardiovascular medicine offering the most advanced and pioneering surgical techniques including minimally invasive heart surgery. Hoag's valve surgery program is internationally recognized for excellence in complex valve surgery and mitral valve repair. A study by an independent health care research firm placed Hoag within the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for a number of specialties including cardiac surgery, coronary intervention and vascular surgery. In addition, Cardiovascular Benchmarks by Thompson Reuters (November 2009) named Hoag in the top 100 cardiovascular hospitals.

Hoag Heart & Vascular Institute physicians perform more surgeries and procedures with better outcomes than any other hospital in the county.

Hoag Neurosciences Institute

As the most comprehensive neurosciences program in Orange County, Hoag Neurosciences Institute offers significant expertise in many neurologic specialties. Several of the Institute’s programs have received high acclaim, including Hoag’s stroke program, which ranks among the top five percent in the nation and Hoag’s brain tumor program is the largest in Orange County.

Hoag was one of the first in the country to offer the Gamma Knife, the most advanced radiosurgical treatment system available, and has the only stereotactic program in Orange County, which is also among the top volume programs in the western U.S. The integrated, sub-specialized team of neuroscientists is actively involved in research to discover new therapies, drugs and other medical advancements to better the lives of patients suffering from neurological conditions.

Hoag Orthopedic Institute

Hoag Orthopedic Institute is a result of a unique partnership between Hoag and a select group of Orange County based orthopedic physicians. It has successfully combined the outstanding Hoag model of care with the knowledge, skills and experience of some of the top orthopedic physicians in the field to create one of the only orthopedic specialty hospitals in the U.S.

The mission at Hoag Orthopedic Institute is to restore, improve and enhance the health and mobility of individuals with musculoskeletal conditions and diseases through excellence in care and outcomes, clinical innovation, research and advocacy.

Hoag Women’s Health Institute

Recognizing the special health care needs of women through all stages of life, Hoag Women's Health Institute delivers care to women of all ages. The Sue & Bill Gross Women's Pavilion contains a spectrum of women's health services, including expert gynecologic care, state-of-the-art maternal child services, and progressive breast care through Hoag Breast Care Center, one of only six certified breast care centers in the nation.

Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center

Hoag's Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center provides comprehensive services for adults and children with diabetes. The Allen Diabetes Center also offers other educational and support services designed specifically to meet the needs of patients with diabetes and their families. Programs include medical nutrition therapy, ADA accredited diabetes self-management education and “Sweet Success” for pregnant women with diabetes.

The mission of the Allen Diabetes Center is to make a difference by improving the quality of life for all people with diabetes or at risk of diabetes, through prevention, early detection, prompt care, education and support.

Choose Nursing, Choose Hoag

Nurses have a tremendous impact on a patient’s experience and care at Hoag. The Choose Nursing, Choose Hoag (CNCH) initiative, created to support Hoag nursing excellence, has produced important results including increases in the number of highly trained nurses at Hoag through sponsored scholarships and nursing professorships.

CNCH supports Hoag in attracting and retaining the best and brightest nurses and providing for their continuing development and career advancement. Hosted at Hoag’s state-of-the-art Marion Knott Nursing Education Center, on-site nursing education programs are designed to enhance the skills of Hoag nurses as they provide patients with a growing number of increasingly complex treatment options.

Ongoing community support of outstanding nursing care at Hoag has helped result in Magnet ® status recognition at both hospital campuses—Newport Beach and Irvine. Only 20 hospitals in California currently have the Magnet designation which requires hospitals to create a supportive environment for nursing practice, professional education, career development and specialty training which is critical to continued nursing excellence.
